1955: A group of personnel managers gather to discuss labor relations. The upcoming Singapore Supervision and Management Training Association (SAMTAS) was established.
Knowing that supervisors may be the best person to identify and solve any labor problem, so the training is mainly aimed at these supervisors from work related to industrial safety. Held certification courses, seminars, lectures, film screenings and tours. The inaugural meeting was held on November 29, 1955, and Mr. Locke Wanshou was appointed as the first president. In April 1956, SAMTAS was formally established.
1963: SAMTAS took the lead in launching the In-Industry Training (TWI) course in Singapore. Consistent with the Singapore government’s plan to promote the country’s industrialization, these courses were courses on supervisory skills initiated by the then Ministry of Labor.
